Mark Crouse - Large Hand Wrapper

The Large Hand Wrapper Bench is perfect for building any type of rod you desire. Your tools can be kept out of your immediate work area and still be within easy reach.

The spool holders can accommodate all brands of thread, including Gudebrod, Talbot, Holland, Fishhawk, and Madeira. The bench provides space for up to 12 working spools of thread. This should provide enough variety for even the most complicated designs.

The unit also includes two bench-mounted supports and two free-standing supports.

The Hand Wrapper also includes several of the tools that I find most useful: an Exacto knife for cutting thread ends flush; a White China Marker for marking centers and guide spacing; a Large Needle Pick for flattening weaves; a Small Needle Pick for lifting threads, especially useful for crossed designs; a Burnishing Tool for eliminating spaces in the wraps; a pair of scissors for general use; a pair of tweezers for pulling the thread ends to assist with a “flush” cut; a Spatula for mixing and spreading glue; a Thread Gauge for measuring trim bands; brushes for applying finish coat and color preserver; and wood sticks for mixing epoxy.

Weaving jigs are not included; however every bench includes a bore for them.

The Mark Crouse - Large Hand Wrapper

When I designed this wrapper I was searching for a wrapper that would satisfy the need of any rod builder who produces Weaves, Wraps, Feather Inlays and other specialized designs. The result is a wrapper that is heavy enough to stay in place when you move around and is equipped with anti-slip feet.

Other wrappers usually have only two thread holders, however most builders use more than two colors when they are working on a Wrap or a Weave.  This usually results in misplaced thread spools. The Mark Crouse Large Hand Wrapper has twelve thread holders for use with even the most intricate patterns.

The Thread Slider is located on the bottom of the bench so that the thread feeds from below and allows you to follow the thread, turn by turn, and side by side for bands you may wrap while leaning over the rod. The Tension Holders are centered, with an eyelet located on each side to make sure that your tension does not change when you move the Thread Slider. This also keeps the angle of the thread from changing when entering or exiting the Tension Holder.

This product provides a separate storage location for your tools. This keeps them out of your way and still allows you to have them close at hand.  In addition, this wrapper comes with two free-standing rod supports in order to successfully accommodate longer rods.

I wanted to maintain a traditional look for this wrapper; therefore it is waxed and not coated with polyurethane. In addition to maintaining the traditional beauty of the wood, the lack of polyurethane reduces any glare that could interfere with your work.

I hope that you enjoy working with this wrapper as much as I enjoyed designing it for you.

Best Regards and Good Wrapping,

Mark Crouse - The Munich Rod Man
